James M. Rafferty, 57, of Johnson City, NY passed away unexpectedly July 23rd, 2009. He was an employee of Southern Tier Medi-Van and truly enjoyed working with all those that he came in contact with. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He leaves his daughter, Krista Joy and son-in-law, Gene Shoemaker and two grandchildren, Jenna and Jacob Shoemaker. He was predeceased by his parents, Jean L. and Francis W. Rafferty. He leaves his brother, Thomas E. Rafferty; Attleboro, MA and two sisters, Lori C. Adamo; Cranston, RI and Patricia A. Grosek; Binghamton. He also leaves his life long companion, Marie Whiting; Johnson City and his childhood friend, Jon Myers. He leaves numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service is scheduled for July 27th, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 305 Murray Hill Road, Vestal, NY. Arrangements are by the Walter D. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 45 Oak Street Binghamton, NY.
Milton W. Sabol, 79, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna Sabol; and sister, Mary Ellen Weeks. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Esther; son and daughter-in-law, John Milton Sabol and Priscilla Bohot Sabol of Smithville, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Sabol Spanfelner and Scott Spanfelner of Camillus; 5 grandchildren, Madison, Sydney, Jackson Spanfelner, Jonathon and Priscilla Bohot; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Harold Donson of Binghamton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, veteran of U.S. Navy, retired 35 year employee of Singer Link. Member of Masonic Lodge #910 F&AM. He was an avid fly fisherman and one of the longest serving members of the Al Hazzard Chapter of Trout Unlimited, having received the lifetime achievement award from the Chapter this past March. He volunteered countless hours over the years, as a N.Y. State delegate to the Catskill Waters/Delaware River Basin Commission. A prolific fly-tyer, Milt spent many hours perfecting his fly patterns and sharing the flies with friends and family and teaching the art.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 728 River Road, Chenango Bridge, with the Rev. Mark A. Giroux officiating. Interment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church Sunday from 4-6 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, P.O. Kenneth Sahre, 73, of Vestal, died at his daughter's home in Victor, New York, Sunday, July 12, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elaine Sahre; his brother, Carl Sahre of Herkimer, New York; his daughter, Sharon Roeder, son-in-law, Michael Roeder and his grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Roeder of Victor; his son, Paul Sahre, his daughter-in-law, Emily Oberman and his grandsons, Harold and Eli Sahre of Brooklyn, New York; his son, Greg Sahre of Vestal and his dog, Maxie. He is predeceased by his son, Kenneth “Angus” Sahre. Ken served in the Air Force right out of High School, then worked as an aerospace engineer at Singer Link Flight Simulation for more than 20 years. He was also an off-ice official for the area hockey teams (Dusters, Whalers, Rangers, Icemen and Senators) every winter since 1974 and worked in various capacities for the Binghamton Mets since their inaugural season in 1992.
