George Van Vleck (Junie), age 86, passed away on July 7, 2010. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Van Vleck; his mother, Hazel Van Vleck; his sisters, Jane Smith, Nellie Brink, Betty Flint, Sally Orzel; and brothers, Alfred (Bud) Van Vleck and "Sonny" Van Vleck. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Dorothy Van Vleck, Chili, NY; a sister, Shirley Talucci, Johnson City, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Louis Hawes, Winchester, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lucinda Van Vleck, Kirkwood, NY and Terry and Ani Van Vleck, Great Bend, PA; caregivers: granddaughter and her fiancé, Sally Van Vleck and Jim Colwell; grandchildren, Aaron and Patricia Hawes, Stone Ridge, VA, Todd and Shannon Hawes, Ashburn, VA, Shaun, Garth, and Erin Van Vleck, Kirkwood, NY, Paul Van Vleck, Fort Hood, TX; six great-grandchildren, Skylar, Dylan, and Piper Hawes and Christian, Sarah, and Sydney Hawes. George worked as a mechanic at Brink's Garage, Great Bend, PA, as a welder at Brewer and Titcheners, New Milford, PA, at Singer Link, Kirkwood, NY, and as an inspector at Fabweld, Susquehanna, PA. He served in the 157th Combat Engineers during WWII. He was the President and caretaker of the Woodlawn Cemetery Association for 60 years. Sharing his woodworking hobby brought him many years of enjoyment.


Visitation will be from 11-Noon on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, PA with the funeral service at Noon. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Jim Stiles, the Woodlawn Cemetery Association treasurer, 300 Orchard Road, Great Bend, PA 18821 or to Asera Care Hospice, 749 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
