Dennis F. "Denny" Larson Age 70, died in Porter Hospice in Denver on November 30, 2011 of lung/bone cancer.
He was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 20, 1941 to Ernest and Ruth Larson, joining the family with older brother Davis and many Swedish aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. The family moved to rural Wisconsin in 1950 after the death of his father. His mother remarried and eventually had three more siblings, Karen, Dan and Janice.
He enjoyed all things outdoors, hunting, fishing,ice skating, working in the woods or fields and tending dairy cattle. He attended a two room country elementary school in Riplinger and went to Colby High School, home of Colby Cheese. He spent a summer working in the Colby Cheese Factory, making Colby Cheese.
He attended Taylor University in Indiana and William and Mary College in Norfolk, Virginia, and later the University of N Y at Binghamton.
He married Karen-also from Wisconsin, and they raised two daughters, Lori and Linda while living a Navy life in California, Hawaii and Virginia. Later they settled in upstate New York for many years,
eventually getting to Colorado in 1987 to better enjoy skiing!
In the 1960's he learned to fly and to use a computer. He was a missile technician on the nuclear submarine "U.S.S. Stonewall Jackson", targeting missiles for launch during the Cold War and Vietnam era.
He expanded his knowledge after Navy days and went to work at Link, helping to design flight simulators, including the LEM, lunar landing vehicle. His later career involved managing computer sales for several companies and eventually switched to consulting in the field of flight simulation primarily for the military.
He and Karen have lived in Winter Park since 1993 where he had been active in Lions and Habitat for Humanity, as working schedule allowed. He stayed very active enjoying the outdoors with walking his dog "Packer" including some "14 ers". He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, skiing,snowmobiling and trap shooting. In earlier years, baseball, football and basketball were his team sports.
Dennis is survived by his wife Karen, daughters Lori (Lonnie) Martin of Denver and Linda (Scott) Chisholm of Highlands Ranch. He has two grandsons, Benjamim and Daniel Chisholm. His sister Karen (Perry) Arndt of Medford WI, a brother Dan (Elaine) Zimmerman of Chandler, AZ and another sister Janice (Joe) Crowson of Tucson, AZ also survive him.
Older brother David Larson and his mother Ruth and father Ernest Larson preceded him in death.
