Betty J. Uhouse, 80, of Hillcrest, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family, on Sunday March 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospice. She was born in Binghamton on September 24, 1929, the daughter of John and Katherine (Zidek) Neschleba. Betty attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Binghamton Central High School, Class of 1947. She had worked for Singer-Link Corp. in Hillcrest and Kirkwood from 1964 to 1991 before retiring as Senior Clerk. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Hillcrest and the Slovak Catholic Socol. She cherished the laughter and company of family and friends, enjoyed playing cards, bingo, gardening, ice skating, baseball and yard sales. She took great enjoyment from her family and is survived by her husband of 49 years, Michael J. Uhouse of Hillcrest; a daughter, Deborah Carey and her husband, Robert of Greene, NY; three sons, Robert Uhouse and his wife, Laurie of Binghamton, David Uhouse and his wife, Cindy of Winthrop, ME and Michael Uhouse and his wife, Debbie of Berkeley Heights, NJ; six grandchildren, Jessica (Carey) Conser and her husband, Jeran of Hillcrest, Jason Uhouse of Binghamton, Jon Uhouse and his wife, Brandy of Tampa, FL, Michael and Alaina Uhouse, both of Berkeley Heights, NJ, and Katherine Carey of Greene; a sister, Irene Myers and her husband, Dan of Vestal; and a brother, Joseph Neschleba and his wife, Eleanor of Whitesboro, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister Mary Champ; a brother, Albert Neschleba; and a niece, Patricia Myers.

There will be no visiting at this time, but she wished to thank all of her friends, neighbors and co-workers for sharing in her long and happy life. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church (St. Catherine's), 1031 Chenango St., Hillcrest, on Friday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850, in her memory.
